Woke Up Dead, the coming-of-age zombie comedy starring Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory), arrives on DVD October 5th from Sony Pictures Home Entertainment. The original online series from Crackle, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s online video network, about a nerdy guy who mysteriously becomes “undead,” but finds more life in his “after-life,” stars Josh Gad (TV’s “The Daily Show,”) Krysten Ritter (TV’s “Breaking Bad”), Meital Dohan (TV’s “Weeds”), Daniel Roebuck (TV’s “Lost”), Ellia English (TV’s “Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Wayne Knight (TV’s “Seinfeld”) and Jean Smart (TV’s “Samantha Who?”).

(A Nanny for Christmas). The online series debuted online in October, 2009.

With the help of his wannabe filmmaker roommate Matt (Josh Gad) and the sexy med student Cassie (Krysten Ritter), who first discovers Drex as he unzips himself from his own body bag, the three begin to uncover leads about why his death didn’t stick, why a mystery online chat buddy is after him and why he’s starting to show signs of superpowers. Will they figure out why Drex is only sort of dead? Will Cassie discover ancient Zombie secrets? Will Matt get a film career out of it? Or is falling in love actually what Drex needs to do to stay alive?

Mail Order Zombie: Episode 129

Download Mail Order Zombie: Episode 129 here!

With apologies to those looking forward to the scheduled review of Redneck Carnage, we apologize. The review of this movie has been pushed back a week; instead, Brother D and Miss Bren discuss End Transmission from co-directors Jason Impey and Kemal Yildirum. Dr. J is back with a new installment of Dr. J's Med of the Dead (in which he assures us K. K. is doing well!), and Need-a-Nickname Scott and Tracey? They spent last weekend at the first Famous Monsters Convention, and in this first of two installments of their convention report, they break down some of the panels they attended, they interview actor Sal Lizard, talk about artist Sam Flegal and point us all in the direction of The Zombie Rights Campaign.

Programming change - Episode 129

We've had to make a few changes to the programming of this week's episode of Mail Order Zombie. Episode 129 will still be released Thursday, 7/15/10, but rather than featuring a review of Redneck Carnage, Miss Bren and Brother D will be discussing End Transmission from co-directors Jason Impey and Kenial Yildrim. The latest installment of Dr. J's Med of the Dead will still appear this week, and Need-a-Nickname Scott and his wife Tracey will be reporting on the recent Famous Monsters Convention (a few quick interviews will be snuck into their con coverage).

With apologies to director Johnno Zee, the review of Redneck Carnage will appear in MOZ Episode 130, 7/22/10.

The Evil Dead is coming to Blu-ray

While we've argued on Mail Order Zombie about whether or not The Evil Dead is a "true" zombie movie, there's no mistaking its impact on our favorite subgenre, as well as on the horror genre overall, and now, finally, Sam Raimi's 1981 classic is coming to Blue-ray™ on August 31, 2010. From Anchor Bay:

Easily one of the most requested titles for Blu-ray™ from Anchor Bay Entertainment’s unparalleled library of horror films, Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic The Evil Dead will officially make its high definition debut on August 31st with The Evil Dead Blu-ray™. For the release, two all-new 1080p anamorphic transfers in 1.85 and the original director-composed 1.33 aspect ratio, have been prepared and personally supervised by director/writer Raimi, presented in high-resolution Dolby TrueHD 5.1 audio, as well as a brand new commentary track with Raimi, producer Robert Tapert and star Bruce “Ash” Campbell! In addition, many of the bonus features, released on previous DVD editions, will once again be available on a special, limited edition DVD included with the Blu-ray™.

The Evil Dead is one of the most influential, landmark horror films of all time. Five college friends, including Ash (Campbell), drive to a remote cabin in the woods for a weekend of fun. Little do they realize that their fun will soon turn to fear, as an unstoppable supernatural force has been unleashed, surrounding and trapping them. One by one, they fall victim to the demonic forces at large, resurrected as murderous demons which can only be destroyed by dismemberment. Only Ash is left to combat the evil before it consumes the world. It’ll be a fight to the death … and to the undeath.

The Evil Dead Blu-ray™ (Disc 1) contains an all-NEW audio commentary with
Writer/Director Sam Raimi, Producer Robert Tapert and Star Bruce Campbell. A
standard DVD (Disc 2) contains the following bonus features, many returning for
the first time in years, and available only for a limited time:
- One By One We Will Take You: The Untold Saga of The Evil Dead
- The Evil Dead: Treasures from the Cutting Room Floor
- The Ladies Of The Evil Dead Meet Bruce Campbell
- Book of The Dead: The Other Pages
- Discovering The Evil Dead
- Unconventional
- At The Drive-In

Mail Order Zombie: Episode 127

Download Mail Order Zombie: Episode 127 here!

Three reviews, two interviews and we lost track of how many emails & voicemails we received this week! In Episode 127 of MOZ, Brother D reviews 2005's Shock-O-Rama , a kinda-sorta anthology movie from director Brett Piper. Scott Cole (13 Visions) returns with a new installment of Dead Air in which he reviews The Peoria Plague, a 1970s zombie radio drama - you need to hear this review! Also, MOZ Family Members Kim and Julie join the fun this week with a review of the audio drama We're Alive. Brother D caught up with writer Steven L. Frank and artist Ben Glendenning at Crypticon Seattle 2010 where he spoke with them about their comic Zombies vs. Cheerleaders, which Brother D and Miss Bren discuss (don't forget the contest!) before diving into this week's Feedback Discussion.
